On an assignment to perform basic design work for a large US defence contractor, three ICE engineers took the opportunity to have their picture taking in front of the ‘Star of India’. This vessel – now home-ported in San Diego, California and still occasionally sailing – was built in 1863 on the Isle of Man, not far from where the ICE Group now has it head office. She is the oldest iron hulled ship still sailing and as such a worthy representative of the maritime tradition of the Isle of Man.
