Irving Shipbuilding Incorporated (ISI) was awarded a contract for a series of nine Mid-Shore Patrol Vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard. The vessels are based on a proprietary design owned by Damen Shipyards.
The official announcement of the award of the shipbuilding contract to ISI took place at the shipyard in Halifax, NS, Canada on September 2, 2009. The event was attended by Federal and Provincial Government ministers, representatives for the Canadian Coast Guard and senior representatives for the companies involved in the contract. Robert Swan led a delegation from Icepronav that was invited to participate in the event, and immediately afterwards started a “kick-off” meeting with ISI.
ICE's involvement in the project will be to modify and update the basic design to meet the specific Canadian requirements and to provide all detail design and production information to meet the Shipyard's construction requirements. The detail design phase will extend into the first half of 2010.
