This summer, 19 students from “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați joined ICEPRONAV Engineering SRL, the main design office of the ICE Group, for a three-week internship. The programme aimed to connect academic study with real-world marine engineering. We invited some of the students to reflect on their time with us – what they learned, why they chose this path, and the skills they found most valuable.
Collaboration and Mentorship
Working closely with ICEPRONAV Engineering SRL’s engineers, the interns gained a first-hand view of what collaboration means in a fast-paced project environment.
“The collaboration with colleagues and mentors at ICE was extremely valuable. I worked in an open and supportive environment where I had the opportunity to learn both from others’ experiences and from the feedback I received. The mentors’ support and the team’s involvement significantly contributed to my professional development.”
— Veliche Dragoş Marian, Naval Architecture Faculty
“Regarding the collaboration with colleagues and mentors at ICE, I can say it was very positive. There were no issues, and the mentors proved to be well-prepared, providing clear and professional answers to all questions and concerns.”
— Nicolau Cosmin Florin, Faculty of Automation, Computers, Electrical and Electronic Engineering
“I had a pleasant collaboration, during which I learned new things about this field. This experience made me appreciate even more the work and effort of the mentors at ICE.”
— Ochişor Robert, Naval Architecture Faculty
Why They Chose Engineering
For many, the decision to pursue naval architecture or marine engineering was sparked early on by creativity, curiosity, and a desire to make a real impact.
“Ever since I was a child, I used to collect LEGO and truly enjoyed building unique structures. I also enjoy challenges and learning new things – all of these inspired me to choose this field.”
— Ochişor Robert, Naval Architecture Faculty
“I chose this field because I wanted to contribute to complex technical projects. I was especially drawn to the combination of innovation, precision, and the real impact that naval design has within the industry.”
— Vasilicã Cãtãlina, Naval Architecture Faculty
What They Discovered During Their Internship
Many interns said the experience boosted their confidence and confirmed their career goals. Others found themselves rethinking what was possible.
“Yes, during my internship at ICEPRONAV, I discovered how motivating applied work is and how fulfilling it is to contribute concretely to real projects in the naval field. It confirmed that I am in the right domain.”
— Veliche Dragoş Marian, Naval Architecture Faculty
“During my internship, I discovered a work environment that was completely different from what I had initially imagined. At first, the naval field seemed very challenging, but now it has become one of my real career options. The most important lesson I learned here was to have the courage to ask questions.”
— Nicolau Cosmin Florin, Faculty of Automation, Computers, Electrical and Electronic Engineering
“Yes, I discovered that I enjoy teamwork and helping others when they face difficulties.”
— Ochişor Robert, Naval Architecture Faculty
What Helped Most
A strong foundation in technical drawing and CAD proved essential for the internship, with students noting how theoretical skills translated into practical value.
“Technical drawing and computer-aided design (CAD) skills proved to be extremely valuable during the internship. They provided a solid foundation both for understanding the projects and for collaborating effectively within the team.”
— Veliche Dragoş Marian, Naval Architecture Faculty
“The most useful knowledge was practical skills related to design, programming, analysis methods, and project management, as they helped me understand and solve real situations during my internship.”
— Stanga Denis-Gabriel, Naval Architecture Faculty
We’re proud to help the next generation of engineers explore their potential. ICEPRONAV Engineering SRL remains committed to offering students opportunities to apply their knowledge, build confidence, and develop their careers in marine design and offshore engineering.
Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their experience. We look forward to following your careers.
