Based on experience from more than 40 FSO and FPSO projects, ICE has designed a robust hull readily adaptable as a platform for high-capacity, deep-water O&G production.

1.6 M Bbl Generic FPSO Hull (G-1600-SM/W)

In December 2019, ICE was awarded an Approval in Principle (AIP) by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for its G-1600-SM/W generic floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) hull design. The AIP means that experts at ABS’ world headquarter in Houston have reviewed critical plans and calculations of the vessel and have found that they comply with the applicable rules and regulations and good practise.

The G-1600-SM/W it is a further development of ICE’s earlier FPSO hull design that won the approval in principle from DNV-GL and was selected by Brazilian clients.

Key features of the new G-1600-SM/W are:

  • Simple hull-shape, with double sides, single bottom and a rounded bow to minimize slamming. Favourable motion characteristics.
  • Economical to build using conventional shipyard technology, including to be assembled from hull blocks built in more than one yard, to shorten construction time.
  • The basic version is designed for a variety of topside configurations weighing up to 30,000 tons capable of up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day production rate.
  • Storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels of oil available for offloading, with an offloading capacity of one million bopd.
  • Design extendable to accommodate topside configurations up to 40,000 tons and a storage capacity of 2.4 million barrels of oil.
  • Spread mooring system with risers on the side; a turret moored version is optional.
  • Mature Basic Design, ready for Class approval and Detail Design to incorporate project-specific equipment and solutions.

ICE will license the G-1600-SM/W design “as is” and will, as required, assist with adaptation to special metocean conditions, topside configuration, Class and flag requirements and customer preferences.

Work-Station Service Operation Vessel

ICE has developed a Work-Station Service Operation Vessel design suitable for cost-effective maintenance of offshore windfarm installations. The concept uses standardized specifications and modular components to lower costs and shorten delivery times.

Operational flexibility is facilitated by positioning the gangway along the vessel centreline, enabling transfer of technicians to either side of the vessel. The vessel offers 470 sqm enclosed warehouse space and a 270 sqm working space on the weather deck aft. A total of 8 TEUs can be stored on the two decks. The production-friendly structure and use of proven equipment ensures competitive shipyard cost and short construction time.

Efficiency & Safety:

ICE WS-60-SOV concept combines workshops & storage space, high-comfort accommodation facilities and a transport method in one single design.

The 3D motion compensated gangway provides safe and flexible walk-to-work operations in significant wave-heights (Hs) up to 3.5 m. An elevator allows for stepless cargo and people transit between different deck levels and the gangway platform.


The integrated HVAC system with 100% fresh air ventilation flow (no recirculation) helps reducing the required heating, cooling and humidification demand significantly. Furthermore, the energy storage system helps enhance efficiency and sustainability of operations.

The design is ready to meet future requirements and can be fitted with tailored solutions.


The concept is offered as a standard 60 POB vessel (WS-60-SOV), or optional 40 POB vessel (WS-40-SOV) with the removal of the C Deck accommodation level. Special attention has been given to the level of comfort for the crew and maintenance personnel on board by reducing noise, vibrations and vessel motion.

ICE has developed a design for a fully electric battery powered passenger and car ferry. The 60-meter vessel can accommodate 200 passengers and 45 cars on a single car deck for quick and easy loading and unloading. The shallow-draft double-ended mono-hull ferry will be propelled by four 750 kW propeller pods, achieving a speed of 15 knots in open water and operating with 10 knots in harbour.

Remotely operated battery charging stations will be fitted shore-side on each terminal, which will also be equipped with magnetic pad mooring mechanisms to unmanned moor and release the vessel quickly and securely in a variety of tidal conditions.

32,000 dwt Double Hull Bulk Carrier Design

ICE has designed a double hull Handy-size bulk carrier with large hatches that is robust, flexible and economical. It is compliant with the latest relevant Common Structural Rules. The hull form has been developed by use of advanced computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analyses and has thereafter been extensively tested in ICE’s own ITTC-approved towing tank to obtain the lowest possible hull resistance.

The 32,000 dwt vessel is suitable for carrying a wide range of bulk cargoes, such as: coal, grain, ore, cement, alumina, bauxite, bagged cargoes, steel coils, industry log, lumber and plywood.

She is laid out with 5 cargo holds and equipped with four 30 tonnes SWL deck cranes (holds 2, 3 and 4 are fully box shaped and holds 1 and 5 are semi-box type with lower hopper slopes as necessary to provide double skin). The vessel is designed to be an ocean going bulk carrier with bulbous bow, transom stern, raised forecastle and poop deck, open water type stern frame, single rudder and single screw propeller driven by a slow speed diesel engine.

84,000 cbm Fully Refrigerated LPG Carrier

ICE has developed a well-balanced large-scale fully refrigerated gas carrier hull design with a carrying capacity of 84,000 cbm, compliant with IGC 2016 rules.

The vessel is designed as a fully refrigerated liquefied petroleum gas carrier, with four (4) independent Type A tanks, with a 2G hazard rating. Low speed engine combined with high propulsion efficiency and an optimised hull form result in a low fuel consumption.

The vessel is very well balanced so no ballast is required for entire voyage in fully loaded and segregation conditions.

The design can be adapted to incorporate a wide range of proven equipment and systems enabling selection of competitively priced solutions from proven suppliers.

20,000 cbm Shallow Draft LNG Carrier

ICE has designed a shallow-draft gas carrier, with a cargo capacity of 20,000 cbm in two type C bi-lobe cargo tanks, semi-pressurised and fully refrigerated.

With a five-meter draft, the vessel is designed for both seagoing service and to meet the LNG delivery challenges presented by shallow rivers and restricted harbours.

The Cargo Containment System (CCS) facilitates “milk-run” type delivery to a variety of small and medium size terminals, allowing partial loading levels of cargo tanks and atmospheric pressure discharge.

The type C bi-lobe cargo tanks have been dimensioned to maximize cargo-carrying capacity within a given set of hull dimensions and draft restrictions, without altering the ship’s performance.

The dual-fuel propulsion system is able to run on cargo boiloff gas (BOG) or distillate fuel.
BOG utilised as fuel allows the vessel to comply with sulphur emission control area (SECA) restrictions and to manage the amount of BOG during laden trips.

The concept is open to design variations in terms of overall vessel size and propulsion system arrangement.

8,500 cbm LEG/LPG/VCM Dual-fuel Carrier

Based on extensive gas ship design experience, ICE has designed a small-scale gas carrier with a cargo capacity of 8,500 cubic meters, compliant with IGC 2016 rules as well as the rules of the selected Class and Flag State.

The vessel is designed as a combined gas carrier with two (2) independent, insulated, cylindrical IMO Type C cargo tanks. She is suitable for shipping various cargoes (LEG/LPG/VCM) which makes her deployable in multiple trades, enabling a high utilisation rate of the vessel.

8,000 cbm LNG Bunkering Vessel

Based on extensive gas ship design experience, ICE has developed an LNG bunkering vessel suitable for supplying a wide range of LNG fuelled ships. Cargo capacity is of 8,000 cbm distributed over two IMO type C bi-lobe cargo tanks.

The vessel’s electrical power is provided by pure-gas engine generators. The fuel supply is ensured by a dedicated fuel gas system, with its own LNG storage tank and also using boil-off gas from the cargo tanks.

The cargo system facilitates “milk-run” type delivery to a variety of vessels, allowing partial loading levels of cargo tanks and atmospheric pressure discharge.

50,000 dwt Oil / Chemical Tanker Design

ICE has designed a robust and economical tanker for transport of crude oil, oil products and IMO Type 2 & 3 chemicals, with six cargo separations. Extensive model testing in ICE’s own ITTC-recognised towing tank combined with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis has resulted in a highly efficient hull form.

The 50,000 dwt tanker has a double-hull structure meeting international requirements for the prevention of marine pollution. Segregated fuel tanks for navigation world-wide as well as in ECA waters are included.

A Global Finite Element (FEA) analysis has been developed by ICE in accordance with the new IACS harmonised Common Structural Rules (CSR), enabling fast completion of the remaining design process to suit specific owner and yard requirements.
