Exmar has announced that the “Tango” floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit that it sold to the Italian energy giant Eni in 2022, after a year of operation has successfully exceeded its guaranteed output volume. ICE assisted Exmar with integration design to connect the Tango FLNG to Exmar’s converted LNG carrier “Excalibur” so that the two floaters together form an integrated floating export terminal. The pioneering ultra-fast-track project has turned Congo into a gas exporting nation.

In 2023 and well into 2024, a total of almost 100 ICE engineers contributed to the conversion project, which was completed at Drydocks World Dubai’s shipyard. ICE’s work scope included onboard scanning, structural analyses, relocation of lifeboats, modifications of several piping systems, design of new boat landings, mooring system changes, material take-offs, yard supervision, inclining tests and follow-up vis-à-vis Class and suppliers.

The aerial picture (courtesy of Exmar) shows the integrated “Tango” and “Excalibur” (red hulls) with an export LNG Carrier (blue hull) being positioned for ship-to-ship transfer of LNG.
