The visit in January of Eddie Purves, newly appointed Technical Director of ICE’s client Ferguson Marine (Port Glasgow) Limited, was an opportunity to reminisce of the time in the early 1990s when he, Robert Swan (now ICE President & COO) and Steinar Draegebo (now ICE Chairman & CEO) worked together at the famous Govan shipyard on the Clyde in Glasgow. The picture is taken in front of an oil painting showing the first 57,000 cum LPG tanker delivered from the yard, where Mr Draegebo after privatisation served for several years as Chief Executive and Mr Swan was a production manager. The Govan yard, now part of BAE Systems, was the last UK shipyard to design and build series of large and sophisticated commercial ships for export. Mr Purves went on to have a significant career with BAE and another British shipyard group. ICE is very pleased to see him “back home on the Clyde”, now with Ferguson.
