In January, ICE had another joint visit to its main design office of delegations from the Ferguson Marine (Port Glasgow) shipyard and its customer Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL), the Owner of the two dual-fuel ferries that Ferguson is currently building. The many design-related difficulties encountered during construction and commissioning of the first ferry (the Glen Sannox – hull 801) have necessitated various design changes to her sister vessel, hull 802. Since many of these changes involve improvements not only to the constructability but also the through-life operation and maintenance of the ship, input from Owner and operator is important. Experience has shown that such input is most effectively achieved through intensive 3D model reviews and problem solving in a cooperative setting.
The picture shows the joint FMPG and CMAL delegation with ICE representatives on the steps of ICE design office during a break in the meetings.
