After contributing to Romania’s energy supply for 40 years, Gloria is getting ready for retirement.
Petrom, a subsidiary of Austrian group OMV, selected GSP Offshore to handle the decommissioning work. It includes reinstating the platform jacking system, positioning the platform on a barge and then transporting it to shore.
The Gloria platform was the first offshore drilling platform in Romania and the first project of its kind in ICE’s portfolio. Built in the Galati shipyard, she started drilling in the Black Sea in 1976. In 1980 the platform completed drilling at Lebada 8, the first commercial offshore hydrocarbon discovery in Romania. Since 1986 Gloria has been used as a stationary production platform.
