We are happy to note that our colleague Vasile Rata has successfully defended his PhD Thesis “Research on Reducing Pollution on Maritime Routes and Coastal Areas in the Black Sea” at the Dunărea de Jos University in Galati.
Vasile – pictured in a red gown at a recent traditional academic ceremony to celebrate his achievement – joined ICE in 2016 as an engineer in the Machinery & Piping Department, shortly after finishing his master’s degree. He managed to perform most of his PhD studies in addition to his day-to-day ship design work. He was able to make effective use of data from ICE’s extensive technical library for his research.
Says Vasile: “It wasn’t easy and there were moments when I wanted to quit. However, thanks to support from management and colleagues, I found the strength to complete the research and thereafter successfully defend my thesis.”
Vasile is presently on paternal leave. We congratulate him on his performance and look forward to welcoming yet another ICE PhD employee back at work.
