A new heritage exhibition has been created at ICEPRONAV Engineering SRL, the ICE Marine Design Group’s main design facility in Galați, Romania. The exhibition celebrates the history, achievements and people that have shaped today’s marine design centre. Its predecessor was established in 1966 as a national ship design and research institute, later transformed into a corporate unit and, following privatisation in 2003/04, became part of the international ICE Marine Design Group.
The exhibition formed part of the recent 60th anniversary celebrations, where employees, alumni and invited guests explored six decades of history through photographs, technical drawings, archive material and historic documents.
The displays include the founding document, patent certificates, historical project material and information highlighting the development of ICEPRONAV’s hydrodynamics laboratories. Together, they tell the story of an important full-service ship design centre that has designed hundreds of ships and offshore platforms for international customers in the commercial shipbuilding, defence and offshore energy sectors.

Creating the exhibition required extensive historical research. Hundreds of photographs were carefully scanned from albums dating back almost sixty years. Former colleagues also contributed additional images through an online alumni archive. The team consulted historical publications and 40 annual chronicles dating from 1968 to document key milestones.
The exhibition prompted many former colleagues to pause at the displays, recognising themselves, friends and memorable projects captured in the photographs. For many alumni, it became one of the highlights of the anniversary celebrations.
The guided tour of the ICEPRONAV facilities added to the experience. Some alumni had not visited the premises since before the most recent renovations and were impressed by the transformation they saw.
The exhibition will remain on display for the coming months, highlighting six decades of experience designing ships and offshore platforms for international customers.
